I am lost for words for how to describe this magnificent piece of gastronomical-art because of the salivating memories of it.
They must have a different name when they’re formed in heaven but here on mother earth we refer to them as ‘Maple Bacon Long Johns‘. A freshly made long form doughnut that has been glazed in rich maple syrup and laid on top, a thick slice of maple bacon. The dough is soft and sweet on the inside. The bacon itself is cooked with maple syrup and free of excess oils. The salty, tender, slightly peppered meat, clashes and harmonizes with the maple and dough to create a haunting memory in your senses. It is delicious and it is perfect.
Since I was strapped for time in my last few hours in Chicago I took the perfect package of yum with me to my next destination, Red Star, and the burly gentleman next to me and said, “That smells like Christmas… I am salivating.”
Right now, looking at my pictures and the memories of perfection on my tongue…I am too.
