Ladurée, NYC
Edibles – 9.5 - Ladurée’s Pierre Desfontaines invented the Macaron, “the double-decker”, la délicieux! (of course, the .5 means there is always room for improvement and delicious deviation from the norm.)
Vibes – 8- 9 the store is pristine but the line can get a little heavy with impatient sighs atop little Manolo’s tapping the pavement
Services – 9.5 all smiles, taking time to delicately pick and pack each sweet treat as though you were the only patron.
Macarons from Ladurée, its outer shell is so incredibly delicate that it cracks with the touch and flakes with a big mouthy bite. Chilled cream and playful jelly centers. For the hot summer days, I prefer the delicate light sweetness of the floral flavors like Rose, Cherry Blossom, Violet, and Lavender as opposed to the stronger fruit based flavors such as Cassis, Raspberry, and Blackcurrant which are better enjoyed in the cool with a cup of tea. For the chilly months there are the more decadent varietals: Chocolate Pure Origin Ghana, Hazelnut, Chocolate Milk, and Caramel with Salted Caramel. Ahhh….. So many flavors, so little room in my stomach.
Le Sigh.

No sooner am I done with the last macaron that I lust after another jewel box.
